Jack of Diamonds, King of Hearts
As they taunted "call" at him, a Jack of Diamonds leaped from the sleeve of his beaten tan leather overcoat and into his hand. The men stared in anticipation as he threw his hand up in the air, landing perfectly in formation card after card in the centre of the table.“Din’t y’all think I could win you?” He pushed the chair back from the comfort of his rear and stood, hands cupped to receive his winnings. “And with that, Sirs, I bid you a bonne nuit. The night is a lady, and she’s a-callin’ my name.”Staff in hand he walked languidly down the hall through a throng of gambling people to his left and right. “Not so fast” a voice uttered from behind him. “Remy”, she looked at him; eyes lost in his purplesque irises for a moment. “Remy” she spoke again, he didn’t turn.
“Mademoiselle, I have no business with you no more.”
“Daddy.” She spoke again in hushed tones.
Gambit turned to look at her, his eyes glowed, and then he was gone.
He walked silently through the dimly lit street, faceless people sauntering past him, there mind numbing conversations echoing off the walls, but he wasnt listening the past minuits had him in a spin, could it be true? and why now? He needed a drink, the Old Point Bar at Algiers point was just five minuits away by ferry.
He stepped across the wooden panneled bridge towards the ferry, it creaked beneathe his feat creating an eerie screeching sound, a shiver shot up his spine, thoughts once again recoiled to what had happened after that card game, as his mind wandered, his awareness of everything around him disappeared and he didnt notice the four figures follow him on to the boat.
Gambit silently watched the tree line pass on the opposite side of the lake and listerned intently to slow trickle of the water washing up against the side of the boat this eased his mind and created a tranquility he had been seeking he was still unaware of the men watching him, they waited untill the ferry was well and truly in the middle of the lake before they began to make there way over, the lead one was atleast six and a half feet in height with a width to match, his sledge hammer sized reached out to Remy and grabbed him by the shoulder,
"I do believe you owe us some money you peeshwank!"
"Why sir whatever do you mean?" replied Remy his mouth curling in to a sly grin,
"Dont come that with us boy!" replied the man to his left,
"We aint got no time to vay-yay and we know you cheated us!"
"Listen pod nah i always play an honest game." his tone was calm and mocking,
This angered them all the leader attacked first he swung at gambit but his quick reflections allowed him to dodge the giants punch and flip him over the side of the boat in to the water, the three other men looked around but gambit had gone, a jack of diamonds lay at there feat, kinetic energy suddenly shot from the card making it explode and send them flying, two flew over the side of the ferry to join there friend and another in to the side of the drivers room knocking him unconcious, remy looked around they were closer enuff to the french quarter and in a flash he was gone again, leaving the driver of the ferry confused.
The old point bar was loud with people laughing, the television in the corner showed a Miami Dolphins game, gambit sat on his own in the corner of the room with a borban in one and a set of cards in the other, the fight on the boat had refreshed him and his mind was on nothing else but his next game.
"Daddy" was whispered in his ear...
